Turning the Dream into Reality

Farm Dreams March 1, 2010

Here in the beautiful state of Washington, our family of 5 dreams of becoming self-sufficient.  We long to grow our own fruits and vegetables, raise our own animals, collect our own eggs and fill our own pantry with fresh-canned goods.  Although we are off to a good start, we are a long way from where we want to be.  Join us as we plant seed, experience the joy of lambing season, watch the orchard bloom and enjoy the harvest.  Along the way there are bound to be tears, laughter and the occasional flying yard tool, but it is sure to be a journey worth taking.

So just who are we??  We are Rob and Mariah Harper, residents of Spokane, WA, married almost 9 years, parents of three very crazy children and farmer-wanna-be’s.  (This picture of us is about 10 years old but it is one my favorites, taken on Harper Lake outside Missoula, MT.  Just add a few gray hairs and some wrinkles, and we pretty much look the same.)  Our children consist of 6-year-old William and 5-year-old twins, Catheryn and Nathan.  They make life interesting, to say the least.  They spend their free time climbing trees, playing in the dirt, riding their bikes and, of course, watching cartoons.  They love the farm as much as we do, and hopefully it stays that way as they get older.

So, thank you for coming along on this journey with us.  We look forward to the ride.
